Momentum Counseling PLLC

Welcome to my practice!  I’m Christine, and I’m excited you’ve come by to explore my services.

Modern life can be stressful – perhaps you are struggling to maintain multiple roles or dealing with an unshakable sense of sadness or worry.  Maybe you have experienced significant events in the past that you are trying to forget, but they seem to stay with you despite your best efforts.  Possibly you feel stuck, but can’t articulate why or what to do about it.

These issues may hold you back from achieving your goals, or even from feeling a general sense of satisfaction.  I’ve helped hundreds of people in my work as a therapist and clinical social worker.  I’ve often received feedback that I can “sum up” how someone is feeling, and can help uncover skills to help people feel more empowered and grounded in their experience.

If this resonates with you, please reach out to see if I can be of further help in supporting you on your journey!

Christine Szewczyk, LCSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience in a variety of settings including the following: community mental health, therapeutic day school, inpatient mental health, veteran and service member care, and group practice.  I believe that my extensive experience gives me a well-rounded background to effectively identify and treat issues related to trauma, mood, and adjustment disorders.

Distressing experiences that can be considered traumatic vary widely, from events such as a breakup or financial issue to childhood abuse or sexual assault.  I have treated these and many other traumatic experiences using the modalities below:

  •  Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing:  EMDR is an evidenced-based modality that allows clients to approach various aspects of trauma from a bottom-up perspective using a combination of grounding techniques and bilateral stimulation.
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy:  CPT is another evidenced-based approach to trauma used to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, involving identification of beliefs emerging from trauma and focused work to shift these “stuck points” into more adaptive beliefs.

Depending on the issue, I draw from a range of modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  I work frequently with clients experiencing adjustment issues, life stressors, depression, and anxiety.  My main goal is to help people enact change through a thoughtful, compassionate approach.  I’ve found that people value my combination of expertise with a dose of humor, warmth, and empathy for the human condition.

I am always happy to connect for a consultation call to see if I am a good fit for the issue you are experiencing!  You can reach me at 312-970-1674 or by email at christine@momentumcounselingpllc.com
